Scott Blodgett - Healthcare // Technology // Innovator // Leader

"The next level of results requires the next level of thinking." -- Rory Vaden

My name is Scott Blodgett and I specialize in healthcare technology. Having served in senior leadership roles in both Payor (United Healthcare/Optum) and Provider (Cancer Treatment Centers of America) organizations (and being a consumer myself) I sometimes have a different take on the healthcare system. To be successful I believe that care delivery organizations must start thinking of themselves like consumer product companies. COVID-19 forever changed consumer (aka patient) expectations for how they want to consume care. For the willing, changing attitudes presents an opportunity to improve satisfaction levels, reduce costs, and shift site of service - which is one of the biggest levers in Value-Based Care (VBC). Proficiency with VBC is increasingly "table stakes" for any Provider organization that aspires to growth and profitability. Indeed, technology and analytics are vital to implementing a successful gainsharing capitation model. I also believe that the traditional IS organization needs re-invention. Thought-leading organizations embrace public cloud offerings, which bring consumption-based pricing and improved security, AI and machine learning to unlock the inherent commercial and operational value contained in organizational data, and adopt a mobile-first approach to application development to give patients unconstrained access to their information when and where they want it (e.g., a patient portal is simply no longer enough).

I have been a professional software developer for more than 20 years and have degrees in Computer Engineering and Computer Science from Rochester Institute of Technology. I also have an MBA from the Bentley University McCallum School of Business. I like to say that I have worn every hat there is to wear in an engineering organization. These days my primary areas of technical expertise are Agile software development (DevOps), healthcare digital transformation, and disciplined operations in cloud-based, high transaction / high-trust environments (e.g. big data). I am an AWS Certified Professional Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer and am proficient in C#, Python, and Terraform.

Early in my career I conceived and built one of the first killer apps for the Salesforce AppExchange and have contributed to many more commercially successful products primarily in business information and localization. I am the inventor or co-inventor of four software patents on web analytics and machine translation.

I am also the co-founder of College Raptor which helps students and families find the best fit taking admission, interest, and financial aid into consideration.

I retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Major after 13 years of service including four years as a Company Commander supporting Active Army Forces in the Middle East and Korea.
